Show Me the Money!

The numbers have been posted to our book purchasing accounts and funds for the subject areas covered by this blog are being cut by over 30% (not just your subject areas, all science subject areas). This is particularly bad for our fund line when environmental and natural sciences subjects are such hot topics right now.

Rest assured, we will do our best to leverage our purchasing power as much as possible, including looking at alternative sources to supplement our limited book budget (we have a possible small grant proposal in mind). If there is a particular item that comes to your attention which you feel we absolutely should have in our collection, PLEASE contact one of us (or all of us) to let us know. Unfortunately, there are going to be some titles published this year that we most likely will not be able to purchase but if we know there's something of particular interest, we can try to find money to buy it.

While we're on the topic of money, we might as well share the bad news about journals. We will almost certainly be doing a major serials cancellation project next year. We've already had to change some print titles to online only this year in preparation though we haven't canceled any titles outright yet. Sadly, it's the way of journal pricing and budget cuts. It is inevitable that some titles will need to be canceled next year. Now more than ever we will need communication from all of you to help us make the best purchasing decisions to support your teaching and research needs. Any feedback you can provide us over the next biennium will be extremely helpful and appreciated.

(It wouldn't hurt to keep your fingers crossed that a miracle might happen, too.)
